Hope Now

Hope Now is a Christian charity operating mainly in Ukraine.  It lists its objectives are “to bring hope, by sharing the love of Jesus and making Him known by ministering to those in spiritual, physical and emotional need”.

Hereford Baptist Church members have supported Hope Now for some years and have visited and maintained links with Calvary Baptist Church in Cherkasy. The need for continuing support in Ukraine is much greater since the Russian invasion in 2022.

Wycliffe Bible Translators

Wycliffe Bible Translators’ vision is for everyone to know Jesus through His Word and in the languages they know the best.  They serve local partners worldwide, churches, mission organisations, community groups, as they bring God’s word to their communities in the languages which speak to them best.  They also advocate, build capacity, and work with local communities to provide support in developing local languages that advances meaningful development, education, and engagement with Scripture.

You can discover more about Bible translation HERE.

Catherine Young, a member at Hereford Baptist Church, has served with Wycliffe Bible Translators and their partner organisation, SIL International, for more than 30 years, most of that time, living in the Philippines and Bangladesh. She has been involved in supporting Bible translation and literacy initiatives and is currently part of the global leadership team of SIL International.

Shoebox Appeal

Hereford Baptist Church has supported Link to Hope for several years, filling shoeboxes for some of the poorest families and elderly people in Ukraine, Moldova, Bulgaria and Romania. Over the years Link to Hope has sent over 1,000,000 shoeboxes to marginalised people, regardless of their background, nationality, or religion, as a practical way of showing God’s love.

Donations of basic items, such as toiletries, stationery, tea lights, sweets, small toys and gifts are collected throughout the year, and used to fill shoeboxes to bring a little joy to families and elderly people.

All our full shoeboxes, and some knitted or crocheted knee blankets, are collected from Hereford in November each year, to be packed on to lorries for transportation to Eastern Europe, ready for distribution around Christmas.
